Dr. Jarvis T. Chen and Dr. Nancy Krieger of the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health have recently published a paper, “Revealing the unequal burden of COVID-19 by income, race/ethnicity, and household crowding: US county vs. ZIP code analyses,” in which they examine COVID-19 disparities through an analysis of factors such as income, race/ethnicity, and crowding. Chen and Krieger have found that people who live in the most disadvantaged counties have the highest COVID-19 death rates. For example, in counties with more than 20% of the population living below the poverty line, there are 19.31 deaths per 100,000 people compared to 9.85 deaths per 100,000 people for counties in which less than 5% of the population lives below the poverty line.
