Gavin Newsom, governor of California, announced this past weekend that the state has acquired 15,000+ hotel rooms for homeless people during the pandemic as part of the “Project Roomkey” initiative. Homeless people are especially vulnerable to COVID-19 as they do not have access to places to quarantine themselves and often suffer from chronic health conditions. Gov. Newsom urges other states to take similar actions to protect the health and well-being of the homeless, asking them to “please consider the morality of those decisions. Consider the moment we’re in and the ethical question you’re being called and asked upon. Consider your station in life and in history,” the governor said. “All of us will be judged.”
