This article in the news section of Nature Research discusses current advances in antibody testing for COVID-19 and the limitations that come with it. While many politicians and others eager to open businesses back up and end social distancing are claiming that we are close to having antibody testing which will be able to determine if people are immune to COVID-19, this article points out that this really isn’t the case and there is a lot we still don’t know. While there are tests being developed, many do not yet have the accuracy required to be useful and even if they are we still simply don’t know if being positive for COVID-19 antibodies means that person is immune or not. It is great to know that these tests are being developed, but we must proceed with caution in claiming what they can and can’t provide for us at this time.
