This article by Michael Riedel, from March 19 stated that The Broadway League’s hopes of reopening Broadway theatres in April simply won’t be attainable. Startlingly, many of the things that Reidel predicted have been coming to fruition, such as the predictions to open Broadway in the summer (June 7 as of right now), but this could easily be pushed back again. He also states that due to the theaters being dark, producers are not bringing in any money into their productions, therefore some have already announced closings, such as Beetlejuice, and others have laid off members of the production. After September 11, 2001, Broadway theatres were dark for 2 days; they have been a symbol of New York’s resilience. Riedel ends on a hopeful tone, noting that Broadway will open again, however it is a matter of what can afford to open and when?
