In John Krasinski’s new short show series called SGN, short for Some Good News, he shares uplifting news, comedy, and light conversation with viewers in effort to keep people positive and comforted during quarantine. This serves as just one example of new emerging forms of News Media in response to COVID-19’s impacts on individuals social lives and mental health. In effort to brighten peoples quarantine day, Krasinski’s show highlights the important need for mental health resources and “good news” broadcasts during a time of fear, illness, and isolation.

A quote from the opening of his recent episode:

“We’re just wrapping up our third week of all this. We here at SGN have covered the fight, from the heroism of the great men and women on the front line (*shows pictures of Medical workers*) to the undeniable power of the human spirit, exhibited by each and everyone one of you week in and week out right from your homes. You know what? Its okay if you’ve asked yourself every now and again ‘what is all this for’? Cause this week, we’ve got a sneak peek at the answer. Though we are by no means out of the woods on this thing, we now know, there is light at the end of the tunnel”.

He then clips to videos of patients leaving hospitals that have recovered from covid-19 and/or tested negative for the virus. This is just the opening minutes of this episode, but they demonstrate John’s will to lift others up and highlight the small moments of positivity in efforts of supporting the public during this time in history.
