For years now it has become evident that the federal minimum wage is not a livable wage. Now, during a crisis like Covid-19, this fact has become even more alarming and evident than ever before. Minimum wage workers can barely meet their basic needs on a minimum wage salary, let alone work towards a savings. With Covid-19, workers have no savings to fall back on and their only option is to keep working, even under a state mandated lockdown. This is a national security issue and humanitarian crisis, and it needs to be addressed.
