Virtual Education as an Experiment

This NY Times article examines whether or not virtual education is the future, or just a convenient adaptation. Some education policy analysts are criticizing the “passive, teacher-centered modes of teaching” rather than the virtual platforms. Critics are even stating that online education may be the way to better prepare college students for the future. Overall, universities are considering the current coronavirus-caused virtual semester as an experiment or test-run for the future. This could potentially lower costs and make education more accessible, but are there also social consequences that we do not yet see coming?
