In Ohio’s Marion Correctional Institution, 2028 out of 2300 inmates that were tested tested positive and 95% were asymptomatic. In general, gathering data from inmates at state prisons in Arkansas, North Carolina, Ohio, and Virginia, 3277 out of 4693 tests conducted came back positive, and 96% of these 3277 inmates showed zero symptoms. While prisons have experienced extensive outbreaks in the past, namely scabies and chickenpox, COVID-19 presents a dangerous and difficult outbreak to manage because of the extensive spread and lack of any or consistent symptoms. This also has larger implications confirming the large extent of undetected cases globally.
