The Coronavirus in Afghanistan

The New York Times article titled “Waiving Rent and Making Masks, Afghans Meet Coronavirus With Kindness” discusses the global COVID-19 pandemic from the Afghan perspective. The Afghan perspective is unique because the government is reallocating its national resources from fighting an insurgency to combatting the Coronavirus. Interestingly, part of their response consists of dispelling the prevalent belief among the Afghan people that drinking two cups of black tea before bed is a cure for the Coronavirus. This article ended with a primary witness sanguinely proposing that the current pandemic is unremarkable because it is just one more emergency in a nation where disasters have become the norm. Overall, the article depicts the Afghan people as combining resourcefulness and generosity to reduce the spread of the Coronavirus.
